State Representative Michele Brooks continues to bring a strong record of public service to her second term as state representative of the 17th Legislative District.
During her first term in the state House, Brooks was active in the fight against tolling Interstate 80, reducing crushing taxes on job creators, improving state services for senior citizens, re-prioritizing state government spending and limiting out-of-control borrowing by the Commonwealth.
In the new session, Brooks anticipates re-introducing several of her bills from her freshman term, including efforts to increase switchgrass production as an alternative form of energy, reforms in the state’s business tax structure to increase opportunities for job creators, and ways to address ever-increasing property taxes.
In the 2009-10 legislative term, she serves on the House Aging and Older Adult Services, Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Local Government committees. She also serves on the House Republican Infrastructure Task Force, an arm of the House Republican Policy Committee.
A member of the Jamestown Borough Council from 1996 to 2002, she served as vice chairman of the Jamestown Municipal Authority, and has a record of devoted service to historical preservation as co-founder and vice president of the Jamestown Future Foundation, which was formed to rehabilitate a property on the National Register of Historic Places, as well as establish a library and community-cultural center. She was part of the effort to preserve the Jamestown Stone Arch and the Gibson House, which was used in the historic Underground Railroad.
Brooks is a graduate of the Anne Anstine Excellence in Public Service Series, which accepts approximately 20 applicants annually. She is a past president with the United Way in northern Mercer County, and is a member of the Greenville Rotary.
She also serves as executive committee member of the Mercer County Republican Committee and is a past officer of the Mercer County Council of Republican Women.
Brooks is married to Guy Brooks, and they have two children -- a son Brandin and a daughter Taylor.
